John McAllum TODD was born Nov. 24, 1833 Fort Pelly in the Swan River District, baptized July 22, 1834 at St. John's Anglican, William Cockran Minister. Baptism record says Isabella Dennet was his mother. He married Mar 29, 1855 at age 21 and lived in St. James MB, he was a farmer/homesteader.  He died 1896 in Seamo (Narcisse) MB, and is buried at St. John's Anglican RRS #4698

+ Matilda WILLIAMS b.1825, m. at St. John's Anglican Cathedral March 29, 1855, she was age 30, from St. James.  Witnesses Donald Todd, Ann Haywood, James and Flora Hallett. Matilda died in Seamo, MB, April 20, 1896 and was buried with her husband at St. Jame's Anglican. Script Claim #1653.  Matilda's mother was Sarah FIDLER, Metis, and her father was William WILLIAMS of the HBC, English.  Her maternal grandmother Mary Indian, and grandfather was Peter FIDLER, English, Land Surveyor.  Matilda Todd, Scrip Claim 1684.  Issued 20 Sept. 1876.  $160.00.

 

John TODD Jr. was an out of wedlock son of John McAllum TODD Sr. born May 10, 1852/54/ or 55 in St. Charles Parish, baptized June 17, 1855 in RRS.  He died March 11, 1943 in Battleford SK. worked as an Interpreter, Mail Runner/Carrier, Police Guide, and Freighter between Battleford, Swift Current, Saskatoon and Edmonton. His mother was Madelaine DUCHARME
+Rosalie DESJARDINS, 1st Wife, b. St. Vital Oct. 5, 1858, m. June 2, 1874 the same day as John Todd Sr. Her father was Jean Baptiste DESJARDINS and mother was Marguerite HAMELIN.
+Isabelle (Belle) BOUSQUET, 2nd Wife, b. 1846 m. Jan. 28,1879 in Battleford d. Mar. 5, 1918 in Battleford.
+Maria PAMBRUN LEPINE, 3rd Wife 3, b. Aug. 25, 1859 in Lac La Biche, m.1919 in Battleford, d. Aug. 6, 1935 in Battleford.

"...for a number of years he was the mail carrier between Winnipeg and Edmonton.  His first wife was Isabelle Bousquet was a Battleford treaty Indian." Douglas Light, on page 289, says that John Todd Jr. died in Battleford, Saskatchewan on 11 March 1943. Belle and John Todd Jr. adopted the adopted children of Frank Smart and his wife Kate Josephine Donovan in Battleford.  Frank and Kate had been married on 9 June 1883.  He was killed during the Northwest Rebellion by a bullet fired by an Indian on 22 April 1885.  Light also says, on page 203, that "Shortly after the Rebellion, Mrs. Smart returned to the east, leaving her two adopted young sons in Battleford where they were brought up by Mr. and Mrs. John Todd." One of them, Frank Smart later married in 1902.  John Todd Jr. served as a scout for Lieutenant-Colonel Otter's troops during the events of 1885.  John and Isabelle are listed in the 1891 Saskatchewan census living in the area of South Battleford.  He is listed as being 39 years of age.

 

Marie Todd was another out of wedlock child of John McAllum Todd Sr., born 1859 at Sturgeon Creek, St. James.  Her mother was Marie Allary (Azarie).  Marie Allary, was living with Joseph Bremner at the time of her daughter's birth.  Their son Joseph Bremner, born 1852 was a half brother to Marie Todd.  Marie was baptized at St. Boniface Cathedral on 16 Jan. 1861.  She was brought up  by her aunt Marguerite Allary and uncle Benjamin Vandal.  Marie married Pierre Boucher, in 1872.  He was 10 years older, Marie was Pierre's second wife.  His first wife was Isabelle Breland, who he married at Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta in Nov. 1866.  Pierre was born at St. Albert, Alberta  in Jan. 1849.  He was the son of Pierre Boucher and Aimable Bruneau.
