Thomas SHARP Jr. born 1758 in Stockton-on-Tees, Co. Durham, baptized Sept. 10, 1758 at St. Thomas, Anglican, married circa 1778, died circa 1822.

1851 Census - Margaret SHARP listed as Widow living at 5 Mill St., in E. Sunderland, Co. Durham with her granddaughter Barbara Sharp age 6.

1861 Census - Margaret SHARP listed as living at 270 Trafalgar Square, Sunderland, Co. Durham with her granddaughter Barbara Sharp age 16.

William SHARP Jr. was born 1813/4 in Sunderland, Co. Durham England, married Dec. 12, 1836, occupation Glass Bottle Maker, died 1858 in Sunderland, Co. Durham.

1841 Census - William SHARP is age 28 living in on South Street in Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, Co. Durham, occupation Farmer.

1851 Census - William SHARP is now married to Dorothy GRAHAM and their residence is 157 Ayers Quay, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, Co. Durham.

+ Dorothy GRAHAM SHARP was born Apr. 2, 1817 at Gateshead, Bill Quay, Co. Tyne and Wear, baptized Nov. 7, 1817 in Gateshead, remarried in 1863 to James STONEHOUSE b. 1811, d. 1883. Dorothy died 1907 Sunderland, Co. Durham. Dorothy’s parents were Sarah and George GRAHAM.

1861 Census – when William Sharp died in 1858 wife Dorothy Sharp took work as Innkeeper at Shoulder of Mutton Public House, Bishopwearmouth. Sunderland, Co. Durham. Occupations of her children are George age 20, Waiter, Catherine age 18, Housemaid, Sarah age 16, Cook, John age 14, Apprentice Bottlemaker, and Elizabeth age 11, a Scholar (Student).

1871 Census - Dorothy SHARP has remarried James STONEHOUSE, occupation Blacksmith, living in Monk Wearmouth Shore, Sunderland, Co. Durham. Living with them were sons George SHARP age 31 and John SHARP age 24, occupation for both sons are Labourer.

Generation 8

George SHARP, born 1840 Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, Co. Durham. One record, the England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1915 states George Sharp died September 8, 1880 in a coal mining explosion along with 164 other coal miners in Seaham Colliery, Easington. He was 39, and his occupation was Stoneman, residence 9 Model Street, Seaham, Co. Durham. His wife Margaret HUGHES SHARP age 40 is shown as a Widow in the 1881 Census with children George Jr., Charles Wm., John Thomas, Benjamin and Lydia at No 4 Church St., Seaham, Easington, Co. Durham. However, a conflicting record shows he is alive in 1901 Census as George SHARP living with his mother Dorothy STONEHOUSE, Widow age 84, he is age 60 and listed as ‘crippled’. Their address 243 North Millburn, Sunderland.

+ Margaret HUGHES SHARP SHEVILL, born 1841, in Sunderland, Co. Durham, married first on Apr. 15 1865 in Shildon, Co. Durham to George SHARP, second marriage 1888 to Thomas SHEVILL.

1881 Census reports Margaret as Widow, age 40, residence was 4 Church Street, Seaham Township, Easington, Co. Durham.

1891 Census shows Margaret SHEVILL living with Thomas SHEVILL at 4 Lord St., Dawdon, Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham with sons Chris SHARPE age 19 Coalminer, John T. SHARPE age 17 Coalminer, Benjamin age 13 Coal Miner, Lydia age 11 Scholar (student).

1901 Census reports Margaret SHEVILL living with her daughter Lydia who married Edward S. WIFFEN born 1874, they married in 1898, all living in town of Chester Le Street, Co. Durham. No record showing of Thomas SHEVILL.

1911 Census reports Margaret age 70, Widowed again and living with her son Ben SHARPE and his wife Isabella S. WALLACE SHARPE and their 4 children at Fourth Cross Rows, Haswell Terrace, Co. Durham.

Generation 9

Benjamin SHARPE Sr., born 1877 in Hetton-Le-Hole, Haswell, Co. Durham, 1882 School Record for Ben SHARPE shows he was attending Bishopwearmouth Church of England Infant School. The family address was 20 Hope St., Sunderland. Co. Durham. He died 1956 Vancouver, BC.

+ Isabella S. WALLACE SHARPE, born 1880 in Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham. She married Benjamin SHARPE in 1898 in Easington, Co. Durham.

Her parents were George WALLACE 1845-1907 Crawleyside, Stanhope, Co. Durham, occupation Mariner and Factory Operator. Her mother was Mary Ann LONGSTAFF. Her Grandmother was Margaret Ann SIMPSON born 1815 and Grandfather was Robert SIMPSON born 1820.

1871 Census - lists George and Mary A.E. WALLACE SHARPE married with two children George age 6 and Margaret age 2. Their residence was on 54 Francis St., Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham.

1881 Census - lists Head of House Robert SIMPSON, age 61, Dock Master Man, Margaret Ann SIMPSON, age 66, Mary A. E. WALLACE, age 24, Isabella WALLACE age 4, and her brother Joseph WALLACE age 7. There address was 10 Pilot Terrace, Dawdon, Easington, Co. Durham.

1891 Census - lists Isabella WALLACE, age 15, was living with her widowed grandmother Margaret Ann SIMPSON, age 66, born 1815. Isabella WALLACE occupation Warehouse Bottle Worker, lived with her brother Joseph, age 19, occupation Moulder Labourer. Their residence was Pilot Terrace, Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham.

August 1898 - marriage of Benjamin SHARPE and Isabella WALLACE at St. John’s Church, Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham.

1901 Census - Benjamin SHARPE Sr. and Isabella's WALLACE were living at 11 Green St., Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham, with son George age 1 year. Occupation General Labourer.

Children of Benjamin SHARPE Sr. and Elizabeth Isabella WALLACE - All Children born in County Durham, NE England:

1901 Census - list John T. SHARPE (Ben’s brother) was living nearby at 7 Green St., Seaham Harbour, Co. Durham with wife Sarah and children Mary and Charles. Occupation Coal Miner Hewer.

1911 Census - list Ben SHARPE married living with his 4 children and his mother Margaret SHEVILL at Fourth Cross Rows, Haswell Terrace, Co. Durham. Occupation Coal Miner Hewer.

1922 Transatlantic Ship Records show the Benjamin SHARPE family emigrated to Canada aboard the S.S. Marloch on Dec. 23, 1922 from Sunderland, NE England, arriving on Jan. 1923 in St. John, New Brunswick. Their final destination was Rosedale, Alberta, a major coal mining town near Drumheller, Alberta to join their son George SHARPE who had emigrated previously for work as coal miner. Their religion is noted on their record as Protestant. Benjamin SHARPE died in Dec. 30, 1956, and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, BC. The Pallbearers were George Sharpe, Jack Sharpe, Chris Sharpe, Ben Sharpe, Eric Wallbank and Alfred Simpson.

Generation 10

Florence May SHARPE, was born October 6, 1909 at Fourth Cross Row, The Haswell Plough, Haswell Road, Sub-district Dawdon, County Durham, District of Easington in N.E. England. She was the only daughter of Benjamin SHARPE and Isabella WALLACE SHARPE. She died Jan. 2011 age 101. Her oldest daughter was Myrtle Judy SHARPE born March 26, 1929. Judy SHARPE's father was Jack John Oscar David MARTIN. Florence SHARPE later married Alfred SIMPSON and had three more children.
